Former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has retired from football at age 33 after a brief bout with side Zenit St Petersburg.
After spending 25 years in the club in which he won four Italian walkers in addition to seven Serie A titles marchisio ended his stay Juve last year. He made 55 caps.
Its a significant choice but a very difficult one. It had been right to show it. I chose to retire since I realised that my own entire body was no longer reacting as the mind wanted, Marchisio told reporters at Juves Allianz Stadium.
He joined Zenit on a two-year bargain a year ago but reduce his spell short earlier this year because of a persistent knee difficulty after managing just nine looks.
